Description

The MTP®-12 to MTP®-12 OS2 singlemode fibre optic patch lead is designed for high-density fibre optic cabling in data centres, enterprise networks and structured cabling installations. Featuring 12-fibre MTP® connectors at both ends, it provides a reliable backbone connection for MTP® cassettes, patch panels, trunk cabling and active networking equipment requiring parallel optical transmission.

Manufactured using 9/125µm OS2 singlemode fibre, this patch lead supports high-bandwidth optical links used in 100G, 200G and 400G Ethernet networks, making it suitable for modern data centre and enterprise fibre infrastructure. The 3.0mm Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) outer sheath is CPR rated to B2ca-s1a,d1,a1, making it suitable for installations where enhanced fire performance is specified under UK and European building regulations.

Designed for compatibility with industry-standard MTP® and MPO connectivity systems, this patch lead is suitable for use with MTP® cassettes, fibre patch panels, optical distribution frames (ODFs) and pre-terminated fibre infrastructure. Precision factory termination helps minimise insertion loss and supports consistent optical performance across high-density fibre networks.

Commonly used with PSM4, DR4 and PLR4 parallel optics, this patch lead integrates with compatible MTP® cassettes, transceivers and structured cabling systems for high-speed singlemode fibre deployments.

Why We Standardise On a B2ca Outer Jacket

Rather than simply meeting minimum requirements, our standard MTP® patch leads use B2ca-s1a,d1,a1 CPR-rated cable to provide improved fire performance for commercial buildings and data centre environments.

Improved Fire Performance

Improved Fire Performance

B2ca cable offers significantly better flame performance than lower CPR classifications, helping reduce fire propagation.

Reduced Smoke Emissions

Reduced Smoke Emissions

The s1a classification limits smoke production, which is a more severe threat to life than the fire itself. It also improves visibility during evacuation.

Lower Acidic Gas Release

Lower Acidic Gas Release

The construction of the cable produces fewer corrosive gases during a fire, helping protect network equipment and building infrastructure.

Commercial Applications

Commercial Applications

Ideal for offices, data centres, public buildings, education and other environments where higher CPR performance is specified.

Every standard MTP® patch lead we supply is manufactured using B2ca-s1a,d1,a1 cable unless an alternative specification is requested.

Frequently Asked Questions

MPO (Multi-fibre Push-On) is the industry-standard connector format used for high-density fibre optic cabling. MTP® is a premium, branded version of the MPO connector manufactured by US Conec.

MTP® connectors feature tighter manufacturing tolerances, improved ferrule design and enhanced mechanical performance, resulting in lower insertion loss, better durability and more consistent optical performance compared with many standard MPO connectors.

From a compatibility perspective, MTP® and MPO connectors share the same interface and can be connected together without adapters. However, performance will always be limited by the lower specification of the two connectors.

For high-speed data centre applications, including 40G, 100G, 200G and 400G Ethernet, MTP® connectors are often preferred where low insertion loss and reliable long-term performance are required.

The difference between Type A, Type B and Type C patch leads is the fibre polarity.

Type A is a straight-through cable used in structured cabling systems.

Type B is a fully reversed cable and is the most common choice for 100G, 200G and 400G singlemode parallel optics, including PSM4, DR4 and PLR4 applications.

Type C swaps adjacent fibre pairs and is typically used in specific duplex breakout applications.

Always match the polarity to your network design or cassette configuration.

Male MTP® connectors contain two guide pins that ensure accurate fibre alignment during mating. Female connectors have guide pin holes instead.

A connection always requires one male and one female connector. Most MTP® patch leads supplied for use with QSFP transceivers and many cassette applications are female, as the corresponding equipment typically contains the guide pins.

Most 100G, 200G and 400G singlemode Ethernet applications using MTP®-12 connectivity require a 12-fibre OS2 Type B female MTP® patch lead.

However, the correct polarity, connector gender, fibre count and transceiver interface should always be confirmed against the equipment manufacturer's documentation before installation.

Yes. MTP® connectors use the same interface as standard MPO connectors and are fully compatible with MPO cassettes, trunks, transceivers and patch panels.

When mixed together, overall performance will be limited by the lower-performing connector within the optical link.

Insertion loss is the amount of optical signal lost when light passes through a connector or connection point.

Lower insertion loss improves overall link performance and provides greater system margin, particularly in high-speed 40G, 100G, 200G and 400G Ethernet networks.

We standardise on B2ca-s1a,d1,a1 cable because it provides enhanced fire performance compared with lower CPR classifications.

This makes it suitable for many commercial buildings, enterprise networks and data centre installations where improved flame resistance, lower smoke emissions and reduced corrosive gas release are required.

2.0mm cables are ideal for high-density patching where space and airflow are priorities.

3.0mm is the standard choice for most installations, offering an excellent balance of flexibility and durability.

4.5mm cables provide additional mechanical protection for harsher environments or applications where greater robustness is required.

Yes. We can supply custom MTP® patch leads in a wide range of fibre counts, lengths, polarity types, connector genders, cable diameters and jacket colours to suit specific project requirements.

Yes. All MTP® patch leads are factory terminated and tested to verify optical performance before dispatch, helping to ensure consistent insertion loss and reliable operation when installed within the network.
